Seismic performance of steel moment and hinged frames with rocking shear walls

The addition of a rocking structural system will soften the connection between foundation and superstructure help beam-column connections to become softer than typical ones. These structures, with systems, follow elastic gap opening mechanism seismic response. Post-tensioned prestressed tendons dampers are used in systems enable structure return its initial position (self-centering) dissipate energy, respectively. current study investigated use shear wall steel moment-resistant hinged frames determined amount damage economic effects on structures. For this purpose, 3D models 3-, 9-, 20-story SAC-project were modeled validated according FEMA-355C then hybrid was added them. structures designed common codes analyzed using nonlinear time history when subjected series records from FEMA-355C. results showed that frame attached concrete (HFR) increased fundamental period inter-story displacement decreased compared similar fixed moment (MFR). HFR exhibited better performance MFR models, which their load-bearing capacity reduced weight, construction costs.
